If you are new to this book/series, you will need to read the books in order. Book 2 will not really make sense if you read it ahead of book 1.A few observations:
1. it's interesting to read a book with an unreliable narrator.
2. Enim's character is quite unique, as his situation.
3. I'm glad the author returned to the original mystery.
4. the writing is just so good! The narrative might be too introspective, but it's certainly engaging.
There were a few things I was missing from this book:
1. a few of the details were often missed or skipped over (food was an important part of the book early on, but then it never appeared later on)
2. how much does Karl really care if he doesn't travel to get Enim? Eventually he knows where he is.
3. when characters return to the original mystery, why aren't they spying on former classmates or checking on their old haunts? (cryptically written to avoid spoilers)
4. there's a lot of secrecy around Enim and Beringer. I think I know what happened but this book clouded that. Intentional or missed connection?
I've always thought Jack was an imaginary friend of Enim's. I was really surprised at the end of book 1 that Jack really existed. However after reading book 2, I still question it. Enim truly believes he sees him and is talking to him, but does he really exist? I chalk this up to the fantastic writing of the author and her genius to create an untrustworthy narrator. I'm all scrambled. And there's a book 3 that will hopefully settle this for me. Can Jack really be real?

Song to the Moon Damnatio Memoriae Book 2 eBook Laura Giebfried Josh Pesavento Reviews
Unreliable narrator, allegations of murder, and no way to figure out the truth. Don't stop at the first book, this one is my favorite. I spent my drives home and boring conversations with my wife thinking about this book. It kept me guessing the whole time.
In this sequel, we learn more about Enim and his illness. While I found this book as gripping as the first, I was exasperated by Enim's stubbornness and bad attitude. It grew tiresome at some points. But I was pleasantly surprised by the last quarter of the book, especially the ending. I highly recommend this book and look forward to Ms. Giebfried's next!
This is the second book in a series of three, that I know of. Personally, I wouldn't mind a fourth book. I do recommend reading them in order, as they are better understood that way. I am enjoying this series and hope it continues. The first half of this second installment did get a bit slow, but the second half, or perhaps farther along, picked things up and concluded with a good ending. I do like the fact that the murders are finally solved in this second book. I am looking forward to starting the third book and it sounds like the book will also include a mystery along with the continuation of the main character, Enim.
